A good friend of mine and I are heading out to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons for 2 weeks in June. We’ll be using my pop up camper and towing with my new Tacoma I bought last week. Fiance and the puppo will be staying home so I need any and all advice to stay out of trouble. Any must see spots or to-do’s out there?

Don’t swim in the pretty pools of water. They’re kinda hot. :)

Should totally try to cuddle with the moose though, they are very friendly. And bear c ubs are like puppies!

If you see Elk get really close to them for a picture, the park rangers love that.

Jackson Hole is a fun stop on the way, the Tetons are amazing, though I’ve not done any back country stuff there. Lots of wildlife, and have seen a few rather large bears, so keep your wits about you. Like Yellowstone, most of the major sights are easily accessible by car.
Yellowstone is beautiful, most people go right when they enter the park, so an awesome hack is to turn left... hahaha. Anyways there is plenty to see there, a short tour is two days...
Montana/Wyoming/Idaho are frikkin amazing in June/July. I think you will end up touring around more than you figure. A lot of friends out west got caps for their trucks and just built a little bedframe
/cots in the back so they didn’t have to worry about finding a site, and just had drawers or rubbermaids underneath for gear/supplies. Gives you total flexibility and allows you to save a lot of $$$$ on campgrounds, but may not be a good idea if you have a shortbed...

My favorite areas to see are the pool in your photo, yellow stone falls and mammoth hit springs. A drive out if the park to cook city then down bear tooth pass to red lodge is very cool. Make camping reservations when you can, pet the bison.

Not sure if it’s closed now, but there’s an area in the Boiling river that’s fed by hot springs and you CAN swim in that without dying.

When I was 14, I approached a bison at Yellowstone to get a better photo. All it had to do was snort at me to make me realize what an incredibly stupid idea that was. SO BIG.

Get comfortable with sl ow traffic. Remember that pop up are considered tents which means same bear rules. Can’t even have bottled water left in it or unclean dishes. No food, even in fridges. Get a bear proof roto cooler for the truck. My advice is to build a simple plywood mid shelf that is snug with the tailgate closed so you don’t have to throw everything in the cab. A topper works too.
I enjoyed the boat tour on the lake but firehole is a must. Jackson is a hole

Keep a salami in your pocket so you can feed the bears

If you want to see brown bears, Tom Miner campground north of Gardiner is a neat out -of-the-way valley with many bears- I chose not to camp there... but at dusk with binoculars we watched a couple of brown bears roam around. Instead of roughing it we went to “Follow Yer Nose BBQ” in Emigrant for some great BBQ.
Just remember to bring your tourist repellant, they get pretty thick in Yellowstone during the summer.

Pack light, you’ll be d oing plenty of walking. No need to make yourself work any harder than necessary. The one time I remember visiting Yellowstone with my family, my sister crammed her backpack full of heavy books because reasons. Carrying that thing everywhere sucked. Only bring with you what you need/know you’ll be using. Other than that, have fun! Yellowstone is spectacular. You’ll want to see as much of it as possible.

If you have the opportunity, go for a float/raft trip in the Tetons, it’s so worth it. Lots of wildlife and super relaxing.

Don’t expect summer weather. It can go from 80F and sunny to 40F and a monsoon in about 15 minutes. Jackson lake lodge is gorgeous, and had bars/restaurants with gorgeous views of the lake and Tetons.
